Our Perspective

Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) focuses on educating not only our members and the public about our valley’s special environment, but also on educating the governmental agencies whose job it is to enforce the local, state and federal environmental laws.

We actively participate in environmental advocacy utilizing those laws by: (1) attending public meetings regarding development projects that may have adverse impacts on our environment, (2) commenting on environmental review documents, (3) negotiating and working with the governmental agencies and with development proponents, (4) and occasionally, enrolling our legal system to protect our environment when all other options have been exhausted.

Over the past two decades, since Friends of Big Bear Valley was founded, developers have proposed many projects around the valley that would have severely impacted or destroyed significant habitats, endangered species and/or our serene mountain environment. We work with other environmental groups and with government agencies to protect our special surroundings. Check out some of our successes  and proposed projects still in process.

Prior to our expansion to cover all of Big Bear Valley, we were called Friends of Fawnskin. This short video was made during that time, and the facts and our mission still remain the same.
